The sun blazed down on the very busy beaches of Santa Cruz, California. People could be seen for miles around on the beach and on the boardwalks enjoying the warm weather. The breeze blew in off of the turquoise green ocean and somewhat cooled the beach, while people were either playing around orand sunbathing on the beach. The surfers tried to catch the waves coming in from the ocean while the swimmers tried to avoid the really large waves. The mason-designed buildings on the boardwalks housed many different shops and restaurants that drew large crowds to them. It was a relaxing scene.

Through all the people crowding the area, a young woman was roller-skating down the sidewalk carrying a silver suitcase. She was a very attractive person and was getting looks from most of the younger people in the area. Her attire was causing more attention to be directed towards her with guys looking at her in lust and girls looking at her with a little jealously. A red string bikini along with a pair of frost-tinted shades and a red, white, and blue jacket on a gorgeous body will do that most of the time. She tipped her tan cowboy hat and skated along.

She seemed to be following someone in the crowd, a man who seemed to be acting rather strangely. He walked along, digging in his bag for some papers. He gave no mind to the people he walked into, which angered some. She whispered something into a microphone in her shades. “Tweek, are you getting this? He is about to pass by where you are.”

A male voice answered responded through the speaker in her earrings. “Yeah, I hear you.” Tweek was working on one of the buildings in the area as a painter; it seemed an excellent cover for tracking someone on the beach. “He just passed the skate shop. Hitomi, continue following him and I'll catch up with you later.”

“Ok.” She replied.

Hitomi continued to follow the man down the sidewalk. Just then a group of skateboarders shot passed, knocking her off balance. She fell only to have her suitcase break her fall. “Owww…” she cried. Regardless of effort, moments of her life would have been a lot better had she not been so clumsy. She lost track of the man for a minute, but quickly found him going into a section of town where the piers and many warehouses were located. She hesitated for a moment, but in the end she had no real choice. She had to continue following him.

Tweek and Hitomi had been following this group of arms dealers that were operating out of this area, who had stolen some of the military's latest weapons. This included major systems like the rare cauldron stones used for starships, beam weapons, gun ammo, missiles, Light Shield Generator (LSG) technology, and the components for the fold drive. They also stole a large number of flash cards. Plus the large bounty on the heads of the gang running the operation made this challenge seem worth it to Tweek and Hitomi.

As she thought about this, the man entered one of the buildings on pier five. She pulled up a schematic of the building on her shades and located a small window towards the back. She went to the back the building and found the window. She looked inside to see what was going on. There were people working in the building packaging up weapons for distribution. As she continued to lurk about the area, a shadow fell over her.

Tweek finished up what he was doing and proceeded to his car in the back of the shop. He had been checking his watch to get data on what Hitomi was doing, but the tracking signal had gone dead. This made him start to worry about her, so he ran to his car in the back of the shop. He had better tracking equipment in the car, so he was able to regain a signal with her and find out just where their target had gone. “’Hmmm… Now that's interesting.’” He said to himself staringstarringthought staring at the nanomist display in the car. ‘According to the information on the screenthis, Hitomi is in a warehouse on pier five. The records say that the warehouse and pier were condemned because of the age and weakness of the supports of the pier. “It seems like a smart idea to store weapons in a place where no one would look, but who would be stupid enough to risk losing that much of money in weapons if the place collapses…? Oh shit!”’ He placed the car in gear, and sped off.

In the warehouse, Hitomi was bound, hanging upside-down from a rope tied to the rafters of the warehouse. The poor girl had gotten herself caught again. The man that she was following most of the day had now become the aggressor. “And who might you be?” He said while stroking the side of her face while she trembled in fear. She’s not nearly as experienced as Tweek, and she knew that it got her caught this time. “Some hapless bounty hunter, it figures. You would think that the bounty hunters we've killed would have deterred more from attempting to stop us.”

“So why haven't you killed me yet?” Hitomi demanded an explanation after hearing what the arms dealer said.

“Well, let's just say that we have special plans for you.” He leered menacingly at her. She cringed.

Outside, Tweek surveyed the building and noticed that a system of surveillance cameras surrounding it. He gazed at the building and then looked down at his watch. The building haswas equipped with a very complex detection system , whichthat sported included a nanomist cloud that that could detects anything that moves. The LSG shield that he was wearing blocked the sensing abilities of the cloud, so his presence where undetected by the nanomist. He had to stay focused on finding Hitomi who was nowhere to be found. “She isn't dead because her life monitors are reading normal except for an elevated pulse rate. She's probably been captured again. I swear if that girl doesn’t get more training, I’ll kill her myself.”

Tweek took out a long-barreled handgun. With experience on his side, Tweek placed a flash card on the side of the weapon. He took aim and blew the main doors of the warehouse down in a blaze of fire. The members of the gang were startled by the bomb and drew their guns in expectation of a fight, pointing them at the doors. Once the smoke cleared, they were shocked to see that nobody was there. The head of the arms dealer cried out for one of his guards to check the surveillance system, but they found nothing on the sensors.

‘“You know, I kinda like being the silent killer. Then again, what I just did wasn’t quiet.’” Tweek said to himselfthought. He started shooting at the guards, taking one out before they started firing back at him. The guards desperately tried to hit him, but he proved very skillful in evading their attacks. “How is it that you people have all of this stolen advanced technology, yet you don't even know how to use it?” The voice rang out from Tweek echoed as he jumped from the ceiling to the floor in front of the arms dealers. This prompted the guards to start firing at him; he stood there and watched the rounds bounced off harmlessly. "He's using a shield, switch to conventional ammo." One of the guards yelled.

“Oh shit!” Tweek knew the trouble he was in. He knew his shield wouldn't stop bullets, so he immediately ran for cover behind some of the crates in the building. He came under a flurry of gunfire. He put away his gun and took out a blaster, which he loaded with an electric flash card. Tweek began firing careful, timed shots in an attempt to knock the guards out. He couldn’t let loose with any of the heavier weapons in his possession; after all, the place was packed with guns and ammo. It wouldn’t do well to report how Hitomi’s body parts might be leaving orbit in various different directions along with the bounty and half of the surrounding city. He also had to take most of the bounties in alive if possible.

This atmosphere wasn’t doing much for Hitomi, as she was in the middle of a firefight. “HELP ME!!!” she screamed still hanging from the rafters.

“Alright, alright. I’ll get you down. Just stop screaming already.” Tweek yelled while pulling out a flash card with a fire spell on it. He continued to dodge the remaining guards' gunfire while aiming for the rope. He burned though the rope with his blaster and the fire flash card, which caused Hitomi to fall into an open crate of flash cards. He ran to her. “Are you alright?” He asked.

“Yeah, but you didn’t have to be so rough.” Hitomi said as she got out of the crate, untying the remaining ropes. “You're gonna pay for that later.”

“Why don’t we you worry about surviving this encounter now, and worry about how I ‘pay’ for this later.” He replied taking a smoke grenade out of his pocket and throwing it into the center of the room. It went off and covered the room in a thick white smoke. “Get your suitcase from the corner of the room. We need to end this now before these idiots set off all of this ammunition.”

“Ok.” Hitomi nodded replied and rushed off to get her suitcase.

Tweek noticed that the crate contained a large number of rare flash cards. “Well now, I can’t pass up this opportunity.” He said to himself while he ran towards the crate to scoop up a few of the flash cards to take with him, and then he fled the crate. “Hitomi, did you get your suitcase?” He said into his comm device.

“Yeah,” she replied while searching though her suitcase. She took out her Focusing Rings and put one on each arm. “I’m gonna cast a stun spell, take cover.”

“Ok.” Tweek said while running away from the crate.

Hitomi put up her index and middle fingers on her right hand and electricity began to spark from it, then she moved her hand towards the guards and released a powerful arch of electricity that knocked them all down. “Whew… I’m glad that’s over with.” She said in a relieved tone. “That’s should be everyone.”

“Not quite. It seems that the leader has left the building.” Tweek replied as he was standing up from the building.

“We’d better go after him.” The two went running out of the door after the arms dealer.

“No, it’s not that big a deal.”

“How can you be so calm when the main guy we’re trying to catch is escaping?” Hitomi asked skating behind Tweek.

“You know me better than that.” He replied, “It’s not like this guy worries me that much.”

Hitomi seemed puzzled by what he said, but as soon as they went outside, they saw the arms dealer lying on the ground in front of Tweek’s car. “I don’t understand. What happened to him?”

“You wanna know?” He asked as he walked over to the man, and pulled two darts out of his back. “Well, I added a feature to the car that would detect if someone we’re tracking comes near it and fire knockout darts at them. My guess is that he wasn’t expecting that.”

“You never cease to amaze me, you know?” She said in relief.

“It’s a gift.” Tweek replied. He pressed a button on his watch and called the police. About 10 minutes later, the police arrived and arrested the arms dealer and his entire gang. Tweek went with the police to pick up the reward from the station, while Hitomi went back to the skate shop where Tweek was working earlier. It was a very good bounty; the reward chip was worth 25 million creds.

Later that day as the sun began to set; Tweek and Hitomi were at the skate shop talking about the day’s events.

“Well that was certainly an excellent payoff for us.” Hitomi said as she changed out of her skates into her high heels and put on a dress made of fishnet over her bikini. Tweek started pulling stuff out of his pockets, including his flash cards. “But what’s with all of these flash cards., I’ve never seen these before.”

“Lets just say that their souvenirs from today.” Tweek said nervously, for he knew that he took them from the arms dealer.

“You stole them didn’t you?” Hitomi scolded Tweek. She never cared for Tweek doing things like this. “You have no morals.”

“I know, and let’s keep it that way.” He replied as he started walking away.

She grabbed him from behind, pressing her breasts into his back. This made him stop dead in his tracks. “Remember when I told you I’d make you pay for being so rough with me?”

“Uhh… Yeah…” he replied. He was really worried.

“Well, you just did.” She said and walked out of the store.

He thought about what she said then checked his pockets only to realize that his debit card was missing. He ran out of the store yelling. “Hey!”

“Don’t worry.” Hitomi yelled running away from the shop, “I’m only gonna get some things we need, and some stuff I want.”

“Don’t spend it all, we’ve got another bounty to go after in the morning.” He yelled back at Hitomi who had already gotten out earshot. “Well… Looks like she did make me pay, and it’s only gonna continue tonight. What am I gonna do with that girl?” He said to himself. All he could really do was laugh and walk back in the shop.
This is an early chapter of a story I worked on in 2004. Its very raw and I tried a rewrite of it in 2007 that I never completed.
